Formerly known as SWANS, NSWS was developed in early 2007 by dedicated nursing students and faculty from around the state who believe in unifying the voices and philosophies of Washington State nursing students. NSWS exists in order to work towards the common goal of betterment and advancement of nursing as a profession.

Nursing Students of Washington State is the state chapter of the National Student Nurses Association and an independent organization supported in part by the Washington State Nurses Association.
